Husky Howl – 2017

We hope this newsletter finds you thoroughly enjoying the beautiful summer weather and planning or having taken a summer vacation.  The summer is a wonderful time to re-charge your batteries for the daily schedule we all call life.  It’s great for the kids, parents, teachers, and the rest of school staff!

We’ve been very busy this summer preparing for classes to re-start this fall on September 5th.  That has entailed hiring new teachers and staff members, as well as completing some new physical projects.

We have two major construction projects this summer.  We’re currently replacing all of the classroom windows at Pleasantview Elementary School in Lakefield with new energy-efficient, shaded glass.  These windows are the originals from the 1958 building and its 1962 addition.  Needless to say, window technology has come a long way in the past 60+ years.  When completed, later this summer, the new panes of glass will be far more energy-efficient, let in more natural light, reduce heat in the summer, and reduce the cold in the winter.

The other big project to be completed this summer is replacing the western half of the roof over the academic wing at JCC High School.  Original to the 1980 building, this 37 year-old roof has served its purpose valiantly.

We’ve also been busy hiring new staff this summer.  Tammy Timko is our new Principal at Pleasantview Elementary School.  Tammy is a Lakefield native who has taught virtually every elementary grade level at JCC and Worthington in her career.  She has spent the last three years serving as one of JCC’s Instructional Coaches, working one-on-one with teachers in the district to help them learn new techniques and be a source of support as they continue to improve their skills.  Tammy’s love of data will also help her as she will also be our district’s Director of Assessments and Curriculum.

The new teachers at JCC High School are Dustin Pautsch, who will teach Social Studies.  Dustin comes to us from teaching this last spring at Tri-City United High School in Montgomery. He’s a native of Arlington, MN.  Robin Medill will teach Special Education.  Robin has spent the last 20 years as a special education teacher in Worthington.  She and her husband moved to Jackson a couple of years ago.

The new teachers at JCC Middle School are Brittany Christiansen, who will teach Science.  She comes to us from two years of teaching at Okoboji Middle School.  Brittany is originally from Spencer, Iowa.  Kimberly Dean will teach Math.  She’s a nine-year teaching veteran who taught in Worthington High School this last year.  Scarlet Thorston will teach English.  She’s originally from Canby.  She has just finished her college degree at South Dakota State University.  Chris Laue will also teach English.  He is a graduate of University of North Dakota.  Chris comes to us from East Grand Forks, ND.

New Teachers at Pleasantview Elementary School are Janet Haren, who will teach Physical Education and Adaptive PE.  She is an eight-year veteran teacher from Round Lake-Brewster and Worthington, most recently.  Janet and her family already live here in Jackson and she’s coached volleyball for us the past two seasons.  Rachael Zimmerman is the new 4th Grade Teacher.  She has taught the past two years in the Mankato school system.  Rachael just finished her Master’s degree in Educational Technology at Minnesota State University at Mankato.  Brittany Rogers is our new 2nd Grade Teacher.  She has spent the past six years teaching 1st and 2nd Grades at Cleveland, MN.  Brittany is a Heron Lake-Okabena high School graduate.        New Teachers at Riverside Elementary School are Kim Klassen, who is our new Reading Teacher. She was one of our Minnesota Reading Corps Tutors.  Kim lives in Jackson and had worked for Habilitative Services in Lakefield for 10 years.  Missy Entriken is the new 5th Grade Teacher.  She comes to us from teaching elementary school at Windom.  Missy and her family live in Jackson.  Sarah Theesfeld is the new 2nd Grade Teacher.  She just finished her degree at the Minnesota State University in Moorhead.  Sarah is originally from Windom.  Katie Hanson is our new 1st Grade Teacher.  She comes to us from finishing her degree at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA.  Katie is a Estherville-Lincoln Central High School graduate.

Sara Zins is our new Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. She comes to us having taught ECSE four years at Worthington and then Murray County Central.  Mackenzie Henning is our new Pre-School Teacher at Riverside.  She comes to us from graduating at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake this spring.  Mackenzie is a Jackson native, JCC graduate, and newly married to another JCC grad.

We also recently hired Susan Pietz as our new District Technology Assistant Coordinator.  Sue is a long-time Jackson resident and has worked in our High School Media Center for the past four years.  We are replacing two custodians who retired this summer.  We’ve hired Cody Stene who will work at the High School during the day and we are working to hire a second individual who will work at the high school at night.  All three of these new people will start in July

We can’t wait to see all of our new and returning students on the first day of school on Tuesday, September 5th.  I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the summer!
