CHALK
1 cup plaster of paris (do not pack)
Almost ½ cup cool water
Liquid tempera (Your kid’s teacher may “donate” the tempera in exchange for a few pieces of chalk)
Margarine tubs or other disposable mixing containers
Disposable molds

Pour plaster into container. Using a disposable stick, stir in MOST of the water. Add 2-3 Tbls. of liquid tempera, mixing well, especially at the bottom. Add a little more water so the mixture thickens, stir well and pour in molds. Sharon uses the plastic tray from manicotti noodles; you can also use paper cups or toilet paper tubes with foil bottoms. Remove molds after chalk is completely dry.

BASIC PLAYDOUGH
1 cup flour
1 cup water (add food coloring if desired)
1/2 cup salt
2 tbsp. cream of Tartar
1 tbsp. cooking oil

Mix all ingredients and stir over low heat until the mixture forms a ball and clings to the spoon. You may think you’ve ruined your pan, but it will clean up easily. Last several months in a Ziploc bag. (You may do this in the microwave. Just make sure you stir often and watch closely)
